Exchange for a Cosmopolitan Future: Amsterdam-Istanbul

Draw a line from the shores of the Bosporus, via European Cultural Capitals Pécs and Essen, and you end up at the IJ. They may be on opposite sides of Europe, the cities of Istanbul and Amsterdam share more than just water.

Urban Cosmopolitans, the Municipality of Amsterdam, the Turkey Institute, the Dutch Centre for International Cultural Activities SICA, and the Netherlands Institute for Heritage, cordially invite you to Exchange for a Cosmopolitan Future: Amsterdam – Istanbul

On the agenda is the importance of culture and cultural heritage in strengthening participation and managing diversity in modern-day European cities. How are immigrants, old minorities, young urban cosmopolitans, and their respective claims on the public domain, looked at in Amsterdam and Istanbul respectively? What role do both (local) government and relevant civil society institutions play? Programme (pdf)

The seminar aims to lay the groundwork for creating inter-city ties for 2012, the celebration of 400 years of Turkish-Dutch relations.
